Major Digby Tatham-Warter was a commander who was original, belligerent and had a great sense of humor. His troops greatly respected him; his unit, A Co/2d Bn, helped capture Arnhem Bridge and hold it, which was a very important role and battle during WW II in the Netherlands.

Lyrics

Major Digby

Our parachutes drop down in Holland
3PM
The unit sneaks past opposition
Killing men
We're on the bridge by 8PM

It isn't long and we see Panzers
Moving in
Their swift response gets our attention
With chagrin
But Digby leads the charge again

Major Digby, let it rain on me
As soon as the bugles call
We'll follow you through a wall
Major Digby, let it pour on me
The Company has your back
We're ready for the attack
We all know that you're a crazy fool

The new commander's something special
Nothing less, oh no
He leads our troops with an umbrella
I confess, oh yes
What he'll do next, oh, you'll never guess

So here I stand in Market Garden
Forty-four
Our Soldiers came to seize the bridges
End the war
But there's an ugly fight in store

Major Digby, let it rain on me
As soon as the bugles call
We'll follow you through a wall
Major Digby, let it pour on me
The Company has your back
We're ready for the attack
Lord knows you're such a funny man

Major Digby, you're crazy !
